The main purpose of the Senior Support Worker is to supervise other team members as well as supporting those who use our services to be as involved as possible in every part of their day to day lives so that they can be full and active members of society. Safely promoting and encouraging independence, choice and community inclusion. Always respecting that you are supporting the person within their own environment.
In this role, you may be supporting people with Autism, Learning Disabilities, Behaviours of concern, Physical Disabilities, Mental Health, Epilepsy and Complex Needs.
The roles requires you to:
- act with empathy towards our service users and show a level of understanding for their needs including personal care, health and medication, behaviours of concern
- provide the provision of best quality of care to all service users that promotes dignity, privacy, safety, and independence and to involve the service users in the decision making in all aspects of their life
- understand each service users individual care hours within their home, and ensure you are supporting them to reflect their care and support needs accordingly
- support your senior leader to develop Care Plans and Risk Assessments with a person-centred approach
- maintain records (e.g. care plans) where necessary, ensuring these are wholly accurate, up to date and completed in a timely manner
- ensure all service users are actively involved in activities within their own home or within their community
- organise and encourage participation from every service user in a variety of housekeeping duties and tenancy responsibilities, these will include personal and communal areas within the home environment
- develop and maintain positive working relationships with service user’s and their families; to assist the service user with any appointment with G.P’s, Social Workers
- offer choice and control in all areas of the service user’s life
- comply with the company’s guidelines policies and procedures always and to ensure that any potential hazards within the home are reported to the appropriate person immediately
- ensure confidentiality is always maintained, in keeping with the Data Protection Act (DPA) 1998 – ensuring that clients personal details are not disclosed to any unauthorised person and all records are maintained within the DPA 1998 requirements
- participate in mandatory staff meetings; this will include both team and senior management meetings. You will implement procedural improvements as directed by your Manager
- undertake the induction of new staff and co-ordinate staff training and development for the team to promote best practice
- allocate tasks to support care workers and ensure any shortfalls on the rota are covered, especially in the absence of the manager/deputy
- ensure the staff work within current policies and procedures and supporting care plans and risk assessments of clients
The settings for Holmleigh Care frontline level one supervisors include:
- Residential and supported living services
- Community support services
Whilst you might be appointed to work in a particular service setting, you may be asked to work in different services or settings in order that we can support people in the most flexible and person-centred way.
To be successful in this role as Senior Support Worker you will need:
- Senior Carer Experience: (2years preferred)
- Challenging Behaviour Experience: (2 years preferred)
- Strong Knowledge around care plans and Risk assessments
- Have the ability to lead and direct support teams
- High level of communication skills (written and verbal)
- Driving License and Vehicle (this would be advantageous)
The ideal candidate for this position will be a highly motivated, energetic people person who is keen to learn, happy to assist with personal care, and wants to help service users achieve their goals and be able to remain calm in difficult situations.
Work is on a rota system over 7 days with. Normal shift patterns are from 7.30am-3pm and 2.30pm-10pm, but shifts can vary depending on service user need. You will need to be a flexible employee as you will be required to work weekends and bank holidays as per the rota.
Drivers are preferred for this role as our individuals enjoy going out to achieve new daily goals and attend various activities.
